How to work out with a shoulder injury

It’s a workout program designed to allow you to continue working out if you have a shoulder injury.

This is not a rehab program for your shoulder injury.

Hopefully you are (or have been) seeing a health care practitioner for that.

This is a workout program.

One that aims for the sweet spot of a great workout and doesn’t bother your shoulder injury. This program includes 7 full body workout phases. The first phase is setup for someone who has been told to avoid using their shoulder in the gym. The 7th phase is for someone whose shoulder injury is no longer an injury. And the 5 phases in between progress gently between those two end points.

Here’s a summary of what you get:

  • A brief explanation of how we train clients who have shoulder injuries at Custom Strength, which is the foundation for this program. This is for those of you who like to know the what and the why of your workout.
  • Guidance about the workouts, including how often to do them, how to fit them in with parts of your normal workouts, selecting weights and range of motion to use, and the difference between pain and exertion.
  • A summary of the equipment needed to do these workouts (Note: the workouts assume you have access to a gym).
  • A description of each phase to help you (and/or your health care practitioner) decide where in this seven phase program you should start, and how and when you should progress.
  • Seven workouts, each building on the previous one. Each workout is provided as a pdf that is both editable for use on your device and formatted for easy printing. The name of each exercise in each program phase is a hyperlink to a video demonstrating the exercise form.
  • A table listing all of the exercises included in this book with a description of what the exercise works, where you should feel it, and additional coaching cues where relevant.

Still thinking about it, but not sure this is for you?

You can download it today without paying, take 2 weeks to read it, try it out and generally decide if it’s worth the $54 (Canadian) price tag. In 2 weeks, you’ll receive an email with a link to pay for it. If you decided it’s what you wanted, then click the link and pay. If you decide that it’s not what you wanted, don’t click the link and don’t pay. That’s it.

Here’s why I’m trying this peruse before you pay approach: With physical books, you get to go to the book store and spend some time flipping through the book to see if it’s actually what you want, and if, by your measure, it’s worth the price. I think that’s an important part of the buying process, and so I’ve decided to offer the peruse before you pay option for my ebooks.

* Sorry/not sorry to my fellow gen Xers who now have a song in their head.
